May 17^th starts us off in Warsaw Poland with a Sony Ericsson WTA Tour event officially called the Warsat Poland Open. The Warsat Poland Open is a tournament that will be played outdoors on clay and it offers a prize purse of $600,000 to the women that are competing, thirty of which are for the singles main draw while the doubles draw is sixteen. Last year it was an unlikely win by 201^th ranked Alexandra Dulgheru who made it through the tournament against the likes of Alona Bondarenko in the final round as well as Lenka Wienerova to reach the main draw and Sara Errani.and Daniela Hantuchova which put her in the first final of her career.

 

 

This year the top seed for the tournament is Anna Chalvetadze, while the second seed is Akgul Amanmuradova and third is Tsvetana Pironkova. The fourth and fifth seeds for this tournament are Anne Keothavong and Bojana Jovanovski. Sixth is Greta Arn from Hungary and seventh is Irina Begu while the eighth is Lesya Tsurenko. Part of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour this year is the Warsaw Open, held in Poland, which has been upgraded to a Premier Level event this year. Previously, the dates of the Warsaw Open was held by the German Open, in Berlin, and is one week prior to Roland Garros. While there was no tournament last year, the 2007 season saw Belgium's Justine Henin take the trophy from Alyona Bondarenko of The Ukraine. 

 

 

The tournament has been held since 1995, and the player's list this year includes almost all of those women's tennis players that didn't compete in both the Rome and Madrid tourneys in the weeks prior. Players such as Elena Dementieva, Agnieska Radwanska, Caroline Wozniacki, Vera Zvonerava and Dominika Cibulkova will be competing the the tournament, which hasn't been held since 2007.
