Part of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour this year is the Warsaw Open, held in Poland, which has been upgraded to a Premier Level event this year. Previously, the dates of the Warsaw Open was held by the German Open, in Berlin, and is one week prior to Roland Garros. While there was no tournament last year, the 2007 season saw Belgium's Justine Henin take the trophy from Alyona Bondarenko of The Ukraine.
The tournament has been held since 1995, and the player's list this year includes almost all of those women's tennis players that didn't compete in both the Rome and Madrid tourneys in the weeks prior. Players such as Elena Dementieva, Agnieska Radwanska, Caroline Wozniacki, Vera Zvonerava and Dominika Cibulkova will be competing the the tournament, which hasn't been held since 2007.
