The Taiwan Open will be played in the lovely city of Taipei this week, as a part of the ongoing WTA Tour. The top seed has been awarded to the Ukrainian No. 1 Elina Svitolina.
After rising to prominence in 2016, her efforts to continue along the same lines this season started on a shaky note. After reaching the semifinal in Brisbane, she moved on to reach the third round in Australian Open. The 22 year old is a talented player, and has very good chances here of going the distance. The next seed is the veteran Australian Samantha Stosur, who has been struggling a lot with her form. She is yet to win a singles match this season and runs the risk of slipping down further in the rankings. Next name on the list is the Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, who started her season in Melbourne. Over there, she made it to the third round, before succumbing to Barbora Strycova in straight sets. Anastasija Sevastova is the last of the four seeds to be competing in Taiwan. Like Garcia, she too reached the third round in Melbourne, but only to lose to Garbine Muguruza.
The tournament will also feature the rising Czech star Katerina Siniakova, who won the Shenzhen Open earlier this year. With such an interesting mix of players, it'll be intriguing to see who comes out on top.
