The Internationaux De Strasbourg is an annual outdoors clay court tournament held in Strasbourg, France. The tourney belongs to the WTA Tour events with a total prize money of $220,000. The reigning champion of the event is Monica Puig. This year’s tournament is the 29thedition in the history of the Internationaux de Strasbourg.
If we take a look at the previous winners, we can instantly realize that the tournament was never really a premier event. With a couple of exceptions, the best players never really competed in Strasbourg. With that said, the event does have some former Grand Slam winners and even the player whom most tennis lover and the vast majority of the media and experts consider to be the GOAT at the moment, the German Steffi Graf.
Graf won all the way back in 1997, defeating Mirjana Lucic in the final. Outside of her, we have three-time Grand Slam champion Jennifer Capriati and Lindsay Davenport among the winners, along with five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova. Players of that caliber won’t compete at this year’s tournament as the highest ranked player will be top seed and world number 17 Madison Keys, who is probably the biggest favorite to emerge victorious.
