Last year, Francesca Shiavone, ranked number 30 at the time, beat Sybille Bammer who was ranked 31st. Both players were the same age, 29, and that makes them both have one win each playing against each other. This year's tournament is July 12th through the 18th and it should be a very exciting one as the ladies of the Women's Tennis Association strive to earn more ranking points and compete in even bigger tournaments. We'll see who is still standing after the WTA Tour makes its circuit around the world.

The WTA goes to the Czech Republic this week for the ECM Prague Open, in a $220,000 international series tournament. Three natives from the Czech Republic make up the field of eight and they will most certainly be looking to take a win at home. Nicole Vaidisova is one of those and while currently unseeded, is a strong player who was previously ranked number seven in the world and who may be looking to build her career back up and take home a win in her home national this week. Francesca Schiavone is the top name in the field, after climbing back into the top thirty and proving that she can compete on any surface she chooses.

Franceca Shivavone will play Shahar Peer in her opener, who was the 2006 Prague Open title winner. Peer has beaten Shivavone both times that they had competed against each other. Other players that are participating are Tsvetana Pironkova from Bulgaria who will play number two seed from Australia Sybille Bammer. Bammer was out early in Budapest last week and will be hoping to take her game a bit further this time. However, Prionkova is a dangerous opponent and will be difficult to write off as an easy match.
