The PTT Pattaya Open will be played at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Pattaya City, Thailand. The tournament will last for a week between February 9 and 15. The tournament will be played on outdoor hard courts and will have $250,000 in prize money.

The tournament was also a part of the WTA calendar last year with Russian Ekaterina Makarova going on to win the tournament. Makarova has chosen not to return to the tournament this year. Rising Chinese star Shuai Peng is the top seeded player for the singles events. This tournament will not see any of the top 10 or the top 20 players featuring here.


The two players who are thought to be the favourites to take home the winners share of $43,000 in prize money are Peng and Ukranian Elina Svitolina, who is ranked 26 in the world and is the second seed for the PTT Pattaya Open. The likes of Kurumi Nara and Zarina Diyas are also expected to be in the mix for the semi-finals and beyond.

Chinese Taipei duo Chan Hao-ching and Chan Yung-jan are the top seeded pair for the doubles event which has $12,300 in prize money. Japanese Kimiko Date-Krumm and Russian Alexandra Panova are also thought to be in the running for the finals.

The PTT Pattaya Open is underway in the city of the same name, Thailand since the 27th of January, 2014. The WTA Tour stop at Thailand is scheduled to end on 2nd February.

The Pattaya Open, having reached the international tier in 2009, is played on hard-surface courts. The prize money of the tournament is announced at $250,000.


The tournament kicked off with Russian dominance as the former number two in the world top tennis players list and the runner-up of Grand Slam twice, Vera Zvonareva, pulls off a victory in the first round. Zvonareva was the 2009 and 2010 WTA Pattaya Champion.


Russia has sent in Ekaterina Makarova, Vesnina and Alla Kudryavtseva as well to ensure a major Russian hurricane to take over this year’s WTA Tour of Pattaya. Kuznetsova had also enrolled in but has called for an early leave due to a strain developed in her left hip.

Last year’s double champion, Date-Krumm and Dellacqua, will also be playing to defend their title, as will the single’s defending champion, Kirilenko, shield hers. The organizers of the event have expressed aspiring hopes to the media. The tickets are available online on the official WTA website.

On the WTA Tour this week, two tournaments across the globe. One of them is the PTT Pattaya Open, held from the 28th of January to the 3rd of February 2013 in Pattaya, Thailand. This tournament will be joined by another event on the WTA Tour, the tour for the ladies tennis professionals, and it is going to be held in Paris, France. It is the Open GDF Suez, also held from the 28th of January to the 3rd of February, and then there will be several more events happening throughout the month on the WTA Tennis Tour.

The most recent tournament was the Australian Open. For the ladies, we saw Victoria Azarenka defeat Li Na in the singles match 4-6,6-4,6-3, to take her second Australian Open title in a row. The team of Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani won the doubles competition against Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua. Last year's winner of the PITT Pattaya Open was Daniela Hantuchova, with Anastasia Rodionova and Sania Mirza winning the doubles, and she also won in 2011. In 2010 it was Vera Zvonareva who took the singles title.

Last year, the final game down to Lucie Safarova and Elene Dementieva with both losing finals in Paris before, and it was Dementieva that came out on top with a score of 6-7, 6-1, 6-4.
