The WTA Tour event in Paris is called the Open GDF Suez, and it is a premier level tournament that is going to be played indoors on hard courts. The main draw consist of 30 singles and 16 doubles and the tournament is from February 8th to February 14th as we start the 2010 season of women's professional tennis. Last year's tournament winner was Amelie Mauresmo, who held up the trophy with pride after beating out Elena Dementieva in a grueling tournament that lasted three sets and made the French crown stand up for her efforts when it was all over. Mauresmo was seeded eighth at the beginning of this tournament with the number one seed Serena Williams who sustained an injury during the event. Jelena Jankovic was the second seed in last year's event and then the other finalist in the 2009 tournament, the one who didn't take home the title, Elena Dementieva, was seeded third.
This year, Serena Williams is once again the top seed in this tournament, also number one in the world right now, and here's hoping she doesn't repeat last year with an injury.
