On the WTA Tour this week, the Open GDF Suez will be played in Paris, France. The tour is just coming off of the very first Tennis Grand Slam event of the year, the Australian Open, which was held at Melbourne Park, and it will be from the 28th of January to the 3rd of February. This event will be joined by a tournament that will be held in Pattaya, Thailand that is called the PTT Pattaya Open, also held from the 28th of January to the 3rd of February and then there are several other upcoming events during the month of February.

The most recent tournament played by the ladies of the WTA was the Australian Open, the Grand Slam held at Melbourne Park, and the singles competition was won by Victoria Azarenka, taking her second Australian Open title in a row. The doubles championship was won by Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani. Last year, this tournament was won by Angelique Kerber, and Petra Kvitova won in 2011. The 2010 winner of the Open GDF Suez was Elena Dementieva, and then in 2009 and 2008 it wasAmelie Mauresmo and Anna Chakvetadze.

On the WTA Tour this week, the Open GDF Suez will be played, indoors on hard courts. This tournament is in the beautiful city of Paris, France and it is a Premier Level event with a prize purse of $637,000. The singles draw is 30 and the doubles draw is 16. This tournament starts on the 6th of February, and will go until the 12th. It will be followed by another hard court tournament, this one outdoors however, and worth just $220,000. The WTA Tour event in Paris is called the Open GDF Suez, and it is a premier level tournament that is going to be played indoors on hard courts. Last year's tournament winner was Amelie Mauresmo, who held up the trophy with pride after beating out Elena Dementieva in a grueling tournament that lasted three sets and made the French crown stand up for her efforts when it was all over. Mauresmo was seeded eighth at the beginning of this tournament with the number one seed Serena Williams who sustained an injury during the event.
