The WTA Tour Finals is finally here, with some of the best players in tennis world set to compete this week in Singapore. Let us take a look at how the groups have been formed.
In the Red Group are Angelique Kerber, Simona Halep, Madison Keys and Dominika Cibulkova. All the four players have been in a tremendous form off lately, with Cibulkova being most impressive. She last won the Linz Open, before which she was the semifinalist in Wuhan Open. Keys too had a similar run, having reached the semifinal back to back in Linz and China Open. Moving on to the White Group, there's Agnieszka Radwanska, Karolina Pliskova, Garbine Muguruza and Svetlana Kuznetsova. While the other players had their berth in Singapore booked well in advance, Kuznetsova made it to the tournament by winning the Kremlin Cup and replacing Johanna Konta in the group. She, along with Radwanska, are a force to be reckoned with, considering that the other two players haven't been in that great of a form off lately.
Nonetheless, Pliskova and Muguruza have proven earlier this year what their potential is, and they may very well shift the momentum in their favour. It is hard to predict a favourite at the moment, but it will be interesting to see who comes out on the top here.

The WTA Tour Championships (or as currently known, the WTA Finals) is an annual indoor championship where the year's best eight players represent the sport, competing for a total prize money over $7,000,000.
This year's event will be the 45th edition in singles event, and the 40thof the doubles competition. The reigning champion is Serena Williams who sadly won't compete this time. While she cited injuries as one of her main reasons, the other one seems more important which has a lot to do with her US Open campaign. As most already know, Williams came very close to completing his first ever Calendar Grand Slam, only to fall short in the semifinal of the US Open against eventual runner-up Roberta Vinci. Williams hasn't played since the US Open and it wouldn't be a huge surprise if she'd miss the Australian Open as well, but she is definitely out of the Tour Final lineup because of injuries and a lack of motivation. Lucie Safarova will replace Williams, but we could even see Venus Williams playing. The reason for that is because the highest seeded alternate (Timea Bacsinszky) also announced that she won't compete at this year's event, which means that if anybody else is out for whatever reason, it will be the American who jumps in.
In the absence of her sister, the biggest favorites to win the event are probably second seed Simona Halep, fourth seed Maria Sharapova or fifth seed Petra Kvitova.
