The Aegon Open WTA Tournament is an outdoor grass court event which was one of the major beneficiaries of the extension of the WTA Tour. This year's edition will be played from 6th of June till 12th of June at the Nottingham Tennis Center in Nottingham, United Kingdom.
This will be the 9th edition of the female edition of this tournament, with Billie Jean King the only person to win it twice. The 2015 edition was won by Ana Konjuh who beat Monica Niculescu in three sets. The top seeds at the 2016 edition are Karolina Pliskova from Czech Republic, Johanna Konta from Great Britain, Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark, Monica Puig from Puerto Rico and Yanina Wickmayer from Belgium. Carolina Pliskova and Yanina Wickmayer should navigate the early rounds fairly easily to set up an interesting quarter final game. Defending champion Ana Konjuh's injury might lead to an early exit, and I'm seeing a Heather Watson vs Monica Puig quarter final. Alison Riske plays her best tennis on grass, and she's a good shout for the quarter finals. I'm picking Caroline Wozniacki to play some good tennis and also get to the quarter finals. The last quarter final should see British Johanna Konta play against Christina McHale. My picks for the semifinal are Carolina Pliskova vs Heather Watson, and Alison Riske vs Johanna Konta.
From here I expect home crowd to become a major factor, probably leading to an all British final between Heather Watson and Johanna Konta. Johanna Konta has had a good year up till this point, and I tip the British number 1, winning the final to secure her 1st WTA title.
