The WTA Tour will go to Marbella, France this week and then onto some other great tournaments during the month of April. The Family Circle Cup is the next on the list, held in Charleston, North Carolina and starting on April 4th. The Andalucia Tennis Experience is the Marbella, Spain tournament, an international level event that is played outdoors on red clay and has a singles draw of 32 and a doubles draw of 16. This tournament starts on April 4th and will run to the 10th. The prize purse is $220,000. Last year, the field include two players out of the top ten and the competition was stiff but the final came down to Flavia Pennetta, seeded second, and Carla Suarez Navarro, the number eight seed. Pennetta won the tournament with a score of 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
This year there are some great players on the field. The top seed is going to be Victoria Azarenka playing in this tournament which is being held only for the third time. The number three is seed is going to be Aravane Rezai from France, ranked number 24th, and then Alexandra Dulgheru is fourth. Fifth and sixth are Tsvetana Pironkova and Klara Zakapolova and seventh and eighth are Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani. Last year, Jelena Jankovic won the tournament, being her first tour title of the year and last year was actually the first year for the Andalucia Tennis Experience. Jankovic made the journey with a long quarterfinal match and defeating the top two players from Spain in her attempt to win the title. Last year, Serena Williams was the top seed while Jankovic was the second. The tournament takes place in the Club de Tenis Puente Romano in beautiful Marbella, Spain and is just one of the five tournaments played in April on the WTA Tour.
Players for this tournament include Kim Clijsters, Victoria Azarenka, Carla Suarez, Sara Errani, Maria Jose Martinez, and Anabel Medina just to name a few of the ladies that will be competing in this event. Azarenka is the top seed and is ranked number seven in the world. Second seed is Flavia Pennetta and Clijsters is third. Aravane Rezai from France is the fourth seed for this event.
