The inaugural edition of the Mallorca Open will be held from June 13 to June 19 at the Santa Ponsa Tennis Club till Mallorca, Spain. It is an event on the WTA Tennis Tour.
The top seeds at this maiden edition are Garbine Muguruza from Spain, Jelena Jankovic from Serbia, Ana Ivanovic from Serbia, Kristina Mladenovic from France and Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan. Top seed and French Open winner Garbine Muguruza should qualify for the quarter final where I expect her to face Saisai Zheng. Ana Ivanovic and sixth seed Caroline Garcia should clear their passages to the quarter final without much fuss. Eugenie Bouchard should rally from last week's to qualify for the quarter final. Kristina Mladenovic vs Sabine Lisicki should be an interesting tie, but Liscki is the superior player on grass and I expect her to make the quarters. Yulia Putintseva has been up to some giant killing this year, and I fully expect her to make the quarter finals, where I see her playing against second seed Jelena Jankovic. Sabine Muguruza should come into this game confident, and will be a good shout for the semifinal. Caroline Garcia has come in leaps and bounds this year and I'm going with the bold prediction of a semifinal showing for her at the expense of Ana Ivanovic. Sabine Lisicki should have too much for Kristina Mladenovic, and Jelena Jankovic has enough experience to navigate her way past Yulia Putintseva.
Sabine Muguruza vs Caroline Garcia should end in a win for the 2nd seed, while Sabine Liscki should manage to eke into the final. The top seed showed us at Wimbledon last year how much her game on grass has improved and her expect her to end this competition as the winner.
