Los Angeles Live
One tournament you should definitely watch this year is the L.A. Women Tennis Championships in Los Angeles, California. The player talent is top notch with five of the top ten tennis players in the world competing including number one ranked Dinara Safina and two other of the WTA Tour's biggest stars will be the highlight of this prestigious tournament. It's worth $700,000 to the players and the draw is larger than the usual tournament on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, with a fifty player draw that gives first round byes to the top eight seeds here.
Safina naturally is at the top of these eight seeds, the twenty three year old coming from Portoroz after winning another title, in fact the third of the year for the Russian, after a grueling three hour game with Sara Errani. Safina is also the defending champion for the LA tournament. The number two seed is Vera Zvonareva, another compatriot from Russia, but has had it tough recently, after sustaining an ankle injury during her European play on clay. She was beaten by Mariya Koryttseva in Istanbul last week in the very first round but is coming to this tournament in California with a good record, winning at Indian Wells earlier this year.
Seeded number three is Victoria Azarenka who just celebrated her 20th birthday and won in Miami this year. Fourth is Caroline Wozniacki, a Denmark native, who already has five titles in just over a year. Ranked number ten in the world and fifth seed for this tournament is Nadia Petrova with Ana Ivanovic taking the number six seed spot. Dominika Cibulkova is number seven and Poland's Agnieszka Radwanka is number eight.
