The Generali Ladies Linz is an outdoor hard court tournament that's held annually in Linz, Austria. This year's event will be the 31st edition in the history of the prestigious competition.
Prestigious, because we can find several Grand Slam winners and all-time great competitors among its champions. The list includes Jana Novotna, Mary Pierce, Lindsay Davenport, Justine Henin, Amelie Mauresmo, Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic. With all that said, the organizers had a much tougher time bringing premier talent in since the tournament was demoted to the International level six years ago in 2009. This year's event will come with a $250,000 total prize money. If we take a look at the seeded players, it becomes painfully obvious that the standard of the event has somewhat dipped since 2009. While there will be one top 10 player in the main draw represented by the Czech Lucie Safarova, she will be the only one. On top of that, there won't be a single Grand Slam winner among the competitors, which is something that surely bothers the organizers when they think about the dozen or so former Grand Slam winners who became Ladies Linz champions.
The main favorite in this year's event will be top seed Safarova who could be challenged by second seed Caroline Wozniacki.
