On the WTA Tour this week, the Generali Ladies Linz, which is an international level tournament held on hard courts indoors. This event starts on the 8^th of October, and is worth $220,000, with a singles draw of 32 and a doubles draw of 16. The next event on the WTA Tour is the HP Open, which is held in Osaka, Japan, also starting on October 8^th for $220,000 and then after that, the WTA Tour will hold the Kremlin Cup, held in Moscow, Russia starting on the 15^th of October. The other tournament starting on the 15^th is the BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open.

 

 

The most recent WTA Tournament to be played was the Toray Pan Pacific Open, a Premier Level tournament that was held in Tokyo, Japan for $2,168,400. Nadia Petrova took the singles title in that event and the team of Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears won the doubles. Champions that have won this tournament in the past include Justin Henin, Ana Ivanovic and Lindsay Davenport as well as Maria Sharapova. Those who will be playing this year include Victoria Azarenka for the first time, as well as Julia Georges and Yanina Wickmayer.

Let's take a look back and the previous tournaments here on the end of the WTA Tour schedule. Tokyo, Japan was the most recent tournament, and it was called the Toray Pan Pacific Open, starting on September 26^th and won by Caroline Wozniacki in the singles competition, and by Iveta Benesova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova for the doubles. Before that, the Tashkent Open in Uzbekistan started on September 20^th, and was held outdoors on hard courts, and was won by singles champion Alla Kudryavtseva and by doubles champions Alexandra Panova and Tatiana Poutcheck.

 

 

The top seed for this tournament is Daniela Hantuckova from Slovakia, with Petra Kvitova from Czech Republic the second seed. Alona Bondarenko is the third seed, and Klara Zakopalova from Czech Republic is the fourth. Sara Errani from Italy is the fifth seed and Andrea Petkovic is the sixth. Well, the Women's Tennis Association will be heading to Linz, Austria, for Genarali Ladies Linz which will be held October 12^th through the 19^th. This will be another great WTA Tournament, with a singles draw of 32 and a doubles draw of 16. This tournament will be played indoors on hard courts for a prize purse of $220,000. This international level tournament was won last year by Ana Ivanovic who faced off against Vera Zvonareva in the final. Last year's tournament was worth quite a bit more money to these ladies, as the prize purse equalled $600,000. Ivanovic was the top seed in this event, followed by her final opponant, and then by Agnieszka Radwanska, Patty Schnyder, Nadia Petrova and Marion Bartoli as well as Flavia Pennetta and Alize Cornet. This year's seeds include Flavia Pennetta who is the top seed as well as Radwanka, Yanina Wickmayer and Carla Suarez Navarro.

 

 

Already in the tournament we are through to the quarters and in this leg of the tournament Pennetta will face off against Olaru, while Wickmayer and Errani play. Also playing in the quarter for the singles are Kvitova and Suarez Navarro and Safarova and Radwanska.
