An outdoor hard court tournament held annually in Kaohshiung, Taiwan, the Taiwan Open is the week's third WTA Tournament. The total financial commitment from the organizers and sponsors is exactly half a million dollar, the biggest portion of which will go to the eventual winner.
The seeded players will all come from outside of the top 50 with one big exception, world number 12 Venus Williams. The American is still capable of dominating on lower level tournaments and could very well go all the way here as well. She won as many as three tournaments last year. The American will be followed by second seed and world number 62 Misaki Doi, world number 64 Yulia Putintseva, world number 69 Zarina Diyas, world number 71 Zheng Saisai, world number 82 Hsieh Su-wei, world number 90 Kurumi Nara and world number 92 Alison Riske.
The main favorite is obviously Williams but she is far from being unbeatable these days. Each and any one of these players could go all the way, especially since several of them are already WTA titlists. Doi, Su-wei, Nara and Riske has all won at least one WTA title (Su-wei won twice).
