The International Tennis Federations next stop for the women is Monteroni d Arbia in Italy and the purse holds $25,000 for the participants. It will be held August 3^rd to the 9^th, 2009, just one day off from last year's tournament, which was held on the clay courts at the same venue. It all happens at the ITF Stadio Olimpico. The main draw for this event includes Patricia Mayr, Romina Oprandi, Silvia Soler-Espinosa, Agustina Lepore, Anna Schaefer, Marta Marrero, Marlot Meddens, Aurelie Vedy, Ivana Lisjak, Anna Floris, Nathalie Vierin, Simona Halep and Stephanie Vongsouthi and four other ladies from various nations including Germany and Slovakia.

 

 

Twenty women make up the the qualifying list for this tournament, nearly all from Italy. There are in fact only four that are not from Italy including Frances Kinie Laisne, Veronika Chvojkova from the Czech Republic, Australia's Tina Schiechtl and Elena Bogdan. As for alternates, the list is comprised of 39. Many are from Italy but there are ten from other nations that include Ukraine, Nigeria, Argentina and France. Over 240 have withdrawn from the Monteroni d'Arbia event.

 

Last year's tournament saw sixteen singles matches in the first round, and in the second Mandy Minella defeated Hungary's Katalin Marosi, Guilla Gatto-Monticone defeating her opponent, along with Anna Floris, Elisa Zbalsam, Nathalie Veirin, Elena Pioppo, Mervana Jugic-Salkic and Aurelie Vedy. All were from Italy except for three, Minella, Jugic-Salkic and Vedy who was from France. 

 

 

These women advanced to the quarter final but it was two Italians and two from other nations that emerged victorious – Mandy Minella, Elisa Balsam, Nathalie Vierin and Mervana Jugic-Salkic. In the semi-final Mandy Minella went up against Balsam and defeated her in two sets, while Nathalie Vierin won her match as well. This put these two women in the final, and it was Nathalie Vierin who came out on top for Italy, beating foriegner Minella 6-1, 2-6,7-6.
