The WTA Tour heads to Indian Wells, California this week for a tournament that starts on March 9^th. Also coming up this month is the Sony Ericsson Open, a Premier level tournament that starts on March 22^nd in Miami, Florida. Next month, on April 4^th, is the Andalucia Tennis Experience, an International Level tournament that is played outdoors on clay for $220,000. The tournament at Indian Wells starts on March 9^th and ends on March 20^th and is called the BNP Paribas Open, held in Indian Wells, California in the United States. This is a premier level tournament held outdoors on hard courts for $4,500,000 with a singles draw of 96 and a doubles draw of 32. The previous two tournaments were the Whirlpool Monterrey Open won by Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova with Jelena Jankovic as runner up and the BMW Malaysian Open, held February 28^th through March 6^th with Jekena Dokic beating Lucie Safarova in the final.

 

 

There are some major players in this tournament including Caroline Wozniacki and Kim Clijsters who are ranked first and second seeds. This tournament also features the number three and number four ranked seeds, Vera Zvonareva and Sam Stosur. Also playing are Francesca Shiavone, Jelena Jankovic, Li Na, and Victoria Zarenka. The Women's Tennis Association will join the men of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) out in the Indian Wells Tournament which will take place starting on March 10^th, officially known as the BNP Paribas Open preceded for the women by the Malaysia Open in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia on February 22^nd and followed later this month with a tournament in Miami, Florida called the Sony Ericsson Open. The Sony Ericsson Open is a Premier Level tournament as is the BNP Paribas Open, and it will be worth a whopping four and a half million dollars to these ladies. The tournament will be played on hard courts outdoors with a singles draw of ninety six and doubles draw of thirty two which makes it one of the largest tournament held throughout the year. So who will lead this pack of women hungry for the championship? Elena Baltacha, ranked sixty fourth in the world is the top seed. This Tasmarine Tanasugarn in the second seed spot.

 

 

Third and fourth is Petra Martic and Sandra Zahlavova, ranked 76^th and 85^th in the world respectively, with the fifth seed Arantxa Parra Santonja. The sixth will be Ayumi Morita and then the seventh and eighth seeds are Klara Zakopalova and Kai-Chen Chang. This is a great tournament for these ladies and the chance to win a lot of money starting March 10^th.
