Hobart International Live
The 2016 Hobart International will be the 23rd edition in tournament history. The first event was held back in 1994 and was won by the Japanese Mana Endo.
Amazingly, each of the 21 editions since, has been won by a different player, giving the tournament 22 different champions so far. The reigning winner is currently the Brit Heather Watson who could theoretically defend her title and bust this curious streak, but considering the fact that she will not be seeded, the chances of this happening are rather slim. We have to add though that ninth seed Mona Barthel going all the way would also do the trick, since she already won the event three years ago. Top seed Sloane Stephens will not participate in the tournament which means that every seeded player will be outside of the top 30. Top seed Italian Camila Giorgi is currently the 35th player in the world.
She will be followed by world number 38 Dominika Cibulkova, world number 39 Monica Niculescu, world number 40 Madison Brengle, world number 42 Barbora Strycova, world number 43 Alize Cornet, world number 44 Alison Van Uytvanck and the above mentioned world number 45 Barthel. The biggest favorite is probably the Slovakian Cibulkova.
