The WTA Tour will be in Estoril, Portugal this week for the Estoril Open, a tournament that is an international level event worth $220,000 and played outdoors on red clay. It will be joined by the nearly identical tournament, the Budapest Grand Prix, which takes place in Hungary. Both of these tournaments have a singles draw of 32 and a doubles draw of 16. Following these will be the Mutua Madrid Open, which is a Premier Level tournament that starts on May 5th and is worth over five million dollars, with a singles draw of 64 and a doubles draw of 28.
This tournament was previously a men's only tournament, but in 1999 started incorporating the women of the WTA. Previously winners include Magui Serna and Jie Zheng. The top seed for this event is Roberta Vinci, with Maria Kirilenko as the second seed and Anabel Medina Garrigues as the third. Petra Cetkovska and Jie Zheng are the fourth and the fifth seeds, while Kai Kanepi is sixth and Nadia Petrova and Mona Barthel are seventh and eighth.
