Dubai Tennis Championships Live
The 2016 Dubai Tennis Championships will be held between February 15 and 22, a week before the ATP competition starts. The tournament is played on outdoor hard courts and will offer a rather hefty, $2,000,000 total prize money which is a little bit more than the amount the men will compete for.
The reigning champion is the Romanian Simona Halep who will be the top seed, trying to defend her title. She will be followed by world number five Garbine Muguruza, world number eight Carla Suarez Navarro, world number nine Petra Kvitova, world number 11 Belinda Bencic, world number 13 Karolina Pliskova, wordl number 16 Roberta Vinci and world number 17 Svetlana Kuznetsova. The Czech Pliskova could avenge last year's final if he can reach the Romanian. After becoming a Premier tournament for three years between 2012 and 2014, the Dubai Tennis Championships went back to being a Premier 5 tournament last year. This will once again change this year, as the tourney is now again a Premier tournament. If we take a look at the past winners, we can see that the record champion is the Belgian Justine Henin-Hardenne who now enjoys retirement as a seven-time Grand Slam champion.
Two-time winner Venus Williams is not yet retired, but the American will not compete in Dubai this time. In her absence the obvious favorite is defending champion Halep who will probably be very motivated after a Fed Cup loss (against Pliskova).

WTA 2015 Dubai Tennis Championships will be played from 15-21 February, 2015 and let us take a look at some of the contestants.
The top seed has been awarded to the Romanian Simona Halep, who has begun her year on a terrific note – winning her ninth singles title at Shenzhen and reaching the quarterfinal at Australian Open. Placed in her half is the third seeded Dane Caroline Wozniacki. She started her season on a good note – emerging as the runner up at Auckland, but failed to play with same momentum in the subsequent tournaments.
The Czech Petra Kvitova is the second seeded player, who was one of the few top seeded players to be routed early at Melbourne. Although, she did win her 15th singles title of her career at Sydney this year. Fourth seeded player is the Serbian Ana Ivanovic, who won at Brisbane this year but lost in the first round at Australian Open.
The defending champion Venus Williams has been seeded eighth, who is coming in the tournament with a tremendous amount of momentum, having defeated Wozniacki at Auckland and reaching the quarterfinal at Melbourne.
It will be hard to pick a favorite among so many terrific players, but in my opinion, Wozniacki and Halep will definitely make it to the final four.
