On the WTA Tour this week, a tournament in Carlsbad, California called the Mercury Insurance Open, a Premier Level tournament that starts on the 16^th of July and is played outdoors on hard courts. The event is worth $740,000 and has a singles draw of 28 and a doubles draw of 16. The event that comes at the same time is the Sony Swedish Open which is going to be held in Bastad, Sweden, also starting on the 16^th of July. This international level event is played outdoors on clay for $220,000 and will be followed by the Baku Cup.

 

 

The most recent tournament on the WTA Tour was the one that was held in Palermo, Italy called the XXV Italiacom Open, an international level event held for $220,000. Sara Errani won the singles title in that event and the crack team of Renata Voracova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova took the doubles title. Anabel Medina Garrigues has won this tournament no less than five times, but others who have3 won here include Dinara Safina, Anastasia Myskina and Mary Pierce. The venue is the Country Time Club.

This week in Carlsbad, California in the United States, the WTA Tour holds the Mercury Insurance Open, which starts on the 1^st of August. This hard court outdoors tournament is a Premier Level event that will be held for $721,000 and will have a singles draw of 56 and a doubles draw of 16. The tournament will be followed by The Rogers Cup in Toronto, Canada starting August 8^th, also a Premier Level tournament, but with a much larger purse at $2,050,000 with a singles draw of 32 and a doubles draw of 16.

 

 

The top seed in this tournament is Vera Zvonareva and Andrea Petkovic takes the spot of the second seed. Third is Agnieszka Radwanksa, and then Shuai Peng will be the fourth seed for this WTA event. The fifth and sixth seeds are Ana Ivanovic and Dominika Cibulkova. Julia Goerges is seventh and Daniela Hantuchova will be the eighth seed of this tournament.
