Alize Cornet is the number one seed for this event, but she has had a couple of weeks that were a bit disappointing to those who know her true potential. The 19 year old was the defending champ in Budapest but she lost almost immediately to Shahar Peer in round two, despite being second seed. Then, last week she was 3rd seed, but was out the first round after facing Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez.
The number two seed is Frencesca Shivaone who won this tournament in 2007, after a long string of eight number two finishes. She was able to make it all the way to the final last week in Prague, beaten finally by Sybille Bammer, who enters this event the number three seed. Also look for Mariana Duque Marino, who is hard to beat on the clay. She will be taking the court on day one. The fourth seed is Iveta Benesova, native of the Czech Republic. Sybille Bammer beat her in the semis at Prague. Alexandra Dulgheru or Romania will be matched up with Benesova.
The fifth seed is Carla Suarez Navarro and Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova is the 6th seed. The seventh and eighth are Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Lucie Hradecka respectively. Three ladies from Austria got the wildcards for this tournament, Melanie Klaffner, Yvonne Meusburger and Tina Schiechtl. Those are the singles, while Barbora Zahlavova Strycova and Iveta Benesova are the two top seeds in the doubles, along with Lucie Hradecka and Andrea Hlavackova who are seeded third.
