Santiago Giraldo v Roger Federer Live
Roger Federer will be up against Santiago Giraldo in his third round match at the 2014 Wimbledon on Saturday.
In the second round against Luxembourger Giller Muller, Roger Federer has reminded his fans of his best serving days. The Swiss had the placement, and he also had the punch, serving 120-125 mph aces from left and right.
This kind of precision and power is not necessarily an everyday occurrence with him nowadays. Muller figured to be a tricky opponent before the match, but with Federer serving like that, he had absolutely no chance to put pressure on the Swiss’ service games, and that gave Federer the necessary confidence to be more opportunistic on Muller’s serving games.
After Roger Federer winning the second set in a relatively uneventful tie-break, there wasn’t any doubt left about the outcome of the match, and Federer wrapped up the victory in a little over 90 minutes. His next opponent will be the Colombia's Giraldo, a player he's played just once before this and won that match in the 2011 US Open.
The Colombian is a consistent top 100 player who made the third round in all Grand Slam tournaments during his career, but could never advance further than the 3rd round. Can he stun the seven-time champion here and make it to his first ever fourth round?
It would be nothing short of a miracle if that were to change tomorrow, and if Federer can serve like he did against Muller, he has to like his chances to go deep into the second week.
