Mikhail Kukushkin v Rafael Nadal Live
Nadal dodged a bullet in his second round match against RosoI, as the Czech had a set point during the second set’s tie-break after winning the first one. Nadal managed to up his level for the third and fourth sets, but just like in the first round, once again he looked beatable.
Next up is Mikhail Kukushkin and Rafael Nadal has a good chance for a straight set victory, for the first time during Wimbledon 2014. The Kazakhstani simply doesn’t pose the same threat to Nadal as Rosol did. For starters, his serve is not nearly as potent as the lanky Czech’s, which is always crucial against the Spaniard, and without it, the task of beating him (even on grass) is borderline impossible.
In addition, his baseline game although dangerous, is also highly erratic, which rarely works against the top guys, and especially against Nadal. Kukushkin can hit better on the run than either Klizan or Rosol, but this is where the advantages in that comparison stop.
He can’t generate nearly as much power as Rosol could, which means Nadal will have an easier time to run down the Kazakhstani’s attacking shots. The Spaniard’s draw is wide open until the quarterfinals, where he’ll probably face Nishikori or Raonic, before a potential semi-final against Federer.
