Andy Murray v Kevin Anderson Live
Andy Murray continues his quest of defending his title, and he looks to be in a particularly impressive form this time. His next opponent on Monday will be the South-African Kevin Anderson, and the winner will advance to the quarterfinals.
Andy Murray started out his 2014 campaign like a man on a mission, marching into the second week of Wimbledon without losing a set during his first three matches in the tournament. In fact, the Scot hasn’t even had to play a single tie-break so far, which can change against Kevin Anderson. Against the Slovenian Rola and the Spaniard Bautista Agut, he seemed like a man possessed, barely losing games while steamrolling the opposition.
His next opponent (currently 20th in the world) has already been tested, having to win a four and a five setter match in round 2 and round 3 respectively, after beating the Slovenian Bedene in straights sets during his Wimbledon 2014 debut. In the second round, Roger-Vasselin managed to win the second set, and in the third round, Kevin Anderson had to come back from a 1-2 deficit, to beat the tour’s probably most theatrical player, the Italian Fabio Fognini.
Andy Murray and Kevin Anderson met 2 times so far in their careers, both matches being on a hard court, each player winning one. Their first duel was at the 2010 Australian Open, where Andy Murray breezed through the South-African, beating Kevin Anderson 6-1, 6-1, 6-2. In their second match during the 2011 Montreal tournament, surprisingly Kevin Anderson was the one who easily won, dispatching Andy Murray 6-3, 6-1, in two very easy sets.
This will be the first battle between the two on this surface, and the favorite is obviously Andy Murray, but if Kevin Anderson can serve well, and get into a couple of tie-breaks, he has a puncher’s chance to make it interesting.
