Victoria Azarenka v Ekaterina Makarova Live
Victoria Azarenka will be up against Ekaterina Makarova in the quarter finals of the US Open at the Flushing Meadows in New York.
Victoria Azarenka beat Croatian qualifier Aleksandra Krunic in a three set match in the round of 16 in order to proceed into the quarters while Ekaterina Makarova surprised seventh seeded Canadian Eugenie Bouchard 7-6, 6-4 to make it into the business end of the ongoing tournament.
In their other matches at the Flushing Meadows this year, Ekaterina Makarova beat American wild card entrant Grace Min in the first round and followed It up with victories over Croatian Polona Hercog and Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan in the next two rounds. Victoria Azarenka, on the other hand, beat Misaki Doi of Japan, Christina McHale of the US, and Elena Vesnina of Russia in her three games leading upto the round of 16.
The duo have faced each other five times over the course of the last five years and Victoria Azarenka leads the head to head stats by 3-2. What is interesting in the statistics is the fact that the Bulgarian has always prevailed over the Russian in hard court events thus far in their respective careers.
Victoria Azarenka is the 16th seed at this tournament while Ekaterina Makarova is the 17th seed. Judging by their seedings, this upcoming match should be a close contest.
