US Open Tennis Live
The final Grand Slam of the season is here, as the US Open starts from Monday, September 29. Let us take a look at the men's half of the tournament. Novak Djokovic has once again bagged the top seed, as the Serbian looks forward to defending his title.
His most recent addition to his trophy collection was the Canadian Masters, which was also his seventh title of the season. Andy Murray is the only player among the top 3 to have beaten the Serbian this year, as the world no. 2 bagged the second seed and is placed in the opposite half. Murray has been quite consistent this year, as he successfully defended his Gold medal at the Olympics, and followed it with a runners-up trophy in the Cincinnati Masters. Stan Wawrinka too is coming in the event as the third seed, but has been quite erratic in the recent weeks. Apart from the likes of Rafael Nadal and Kei Nishikori who also are playing, the event marks the return of 2009 champion Juan Martin Del Potro, who is returning after an injury plagued season last year. Moreover, young Austrian Dominic Thiem has bagged the eighth seed, as he looks to make his name among the experienced ones. In fact, he is the youngest one among the top 10 seeds.
Moving on to women's half, Serena Williams is once again the top seed as the world no. 1 looks to win her second Grand Slam of the year. However, she already has incurred heavy resistances from the likes of Garbine Muguruza and Angelique Kerber this season. Her bid to win at Flushing Meadows will depend heavily on her consistency and confidence, but with the crowd backing her, she can certainly reach the last eight at least. Kerber is the second seeded player, and looks highly daunting at the moment with back to back runs to final in Olympics and Cincinnati Masters. World no. 4 Agnieszka Radwanska is also looking strong at the moment, having just won the WTA New Haven. Similarly, Simona Halep too is one of the contenders here, as the Romanian no. 1 won consecutive titles in Bucharest and Montreal, which she followed with semifinal run in Cincinnati. Last year's US Open finalist Roberta Vinci has been seeded seventh, although her season has been a shaky one with a record of 22-21.
Former top three players Eugenie Bouchard and Caroline Wozniacki will also feature in the event as unseeded players, as the duo looks to break back into the top 10 after a disastrous spell on the tour. With such a talented pool of players in both the halves, this is surely going to be an exciting Grand Slam to follow.

The 2015 US Open will be the 135th edition of the tournament. It is an outdoor hard court event, played on DecoTurf which is a surface type that while not the quickest in the world, still offers a good chance for the attacking players without compromising the style of the more defense-oriented competitors. This year’s event will have a $42,253,400 total prize money which makes the US Open the most lucrative Grand Slam tournament out of the four. The defending champion on the men’s side is 2014 surprise winner Marin Cilic who shocked the world last year by playing tremendous tennis in the second week, going all the way.
His best match in the tournament probably came against Roger Federer in the semifinal, where the Croat was able to dominate his Swiss opponent, hitting winners from all over the court while being able to keep consistent pressure on the 17-time Grand Slam and five-time US Open champion all-time great. Cilic is having a mediocre season so far in 2015, and definitely not among the favorites, probably not even among the dark horse candidates. The top favorite - without a doubt - will be world number one Novak Djokovic who has won two Grand Slams this year so far while making the final of the third as well. Outside of him, the other two favorites are Roger Federer and Andy Murray, while among the dark horse candidates we have to mention the always dangerous Stan Wawrinka, hard court force Kei Nishikori or the currentily ailing but still 14-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal who is set to play Djokovic in the fourth round, provided they both make it that far of course.
The 2015 US Open will begin from Monday with Serena Williams undoubtedly starting out as a favourite to try and win the Grand Slam yet again. On the ladies’ side, there is really only one player at the moment who deserves the lion share of our collective attention, and that player is non-other than now 21-time Grand Slam Serena Williams. The American has won all three majors this year, trying to do something at the US Open that hasn’t been done since 1988, when the German Steffi Graf won all four Grand Slams (and the Olympics). The younger Williams’ sister has been thoroughly dominating the tour in the last couple of years. With some unfortunate early retirements (mainly the Belgians, Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters), she is left without a major rival at the moment, dominating players who are clearly not ready to dethrone her yet.
That’s not to say Williams does not deserve all the praise in the world, she does, but it’s pretty hard to argue that the women’s tour is at a serious disadvantage at the moment. Young players cannot seem to break through, and the American can play comfortably against the current veterans, having a massive if not ridiculously dominating head to head lead over virtually each and every one of them. Unless the pressure gets to her or she has some kind of medical problem, Williams will complete her first ever Calendar Grand Slam in two weeks. Maria Sharapova has withdrawn from the competition, leaving Simona Halep as the other favourite going into the competition.

With the nail-biting matches, the best shots ever played, the most competitive tennis tournament has finally come back this year. We’ve all heard of this before, the US Open is one of the most viewed and talked about tournament played, and definitely the biggest player in the US.
Any tennis fan will be eager to watch this tournament which will be featuring some of the best players, both men and woman, from across the world all coming together in New York City. The fourth and final Grand Slam is here. Last year’s winner Andy Murray will be coming back at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to fight it out against the likes of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Since it’ll be played on hard courts, the obvious prediction would be Rafael Nadal who has been in form lately, as he won the Roger Cup, and is known to be undefeated on hard courts. Roger Federer has been out of form lately since his age is finally getting to him, and Novak Djokovic has been having a bad year lately. And since Andy Murray has become inconsistent in his performance, the arrows point towards Nadal being the winner. But with a tournament of this large a scale, anything can happen. When you talk about the women’s matches, Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka, and Maria Sharapova are the top contenders, but there is some underdog challenge as well from the likes of Sloane Stephens, Laura Robinson, Genie Bouchard and Madison Keys.
Serena has been performing extremely consistent and extremely well, winning 8 of the 10 finals that she’s been in. She’s so far dominated over both Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova, but only time will tell which one of them is to win the last Grand Slam title.
