Polona Hercog v Angelique Kerber Live
An old rivalry is set to be renewed in the first round of US Open as second seeded German Angelique Kerber will face the Slovenian Polona Hercog, on Monday afternoon.
The two players last met each other back in 2011 WTA Monterrey, where Hercog won the match in straight sets. However, Kerber still leads 3-2 in the head to head tally, and looks favorite to increase that lead further. Kerber has risen to the world no. 2 spot following her brilliant performance this season. She won the Silver in Olympics, which she followed with a similar run in the Cincinnati Masters too, where she was the runner-up, losing to Karolina Pliskova in the final. Having won the Australian Open and the runners-up trophy at the Wimbledon, she is certainly one of the favorite ones to win at the Flushing Meadows. Hercog on the other hand has a record of 16-22 this year and hasn't been that particularly impressive. Her best run came in WTA Bol, where she was the runner-up. Apart from that, her every other tournament ended in the early stages itself.
Even though Hercog has beaten Kerber in the past, it is something which is unlikely to happen now. The German is in a terrific form and should win this one comfortably.
