Novak Djokovic Gets Reception Fit For a King In Serbia
The Wimbledon Final for the Gentleman's Singles came down to Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal and the Serbian was able to easily take the title from two time winner Rafe, who was the number one seed in the tournament. The Spaniard lost to Novak Djokovic with a final score of 6-4 6-1 1-6 6-3. Meanwhile, Czech Republic's Petra Kvitova won her first ever Wimbledon title, defeating Maria Sharapova with a score of 6-3, 6-4. Bob and Mike Bryan beat Robert Lindsetdt and Horia Tecau for the Gentlemen's Doubles title and Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik defeated Sabine Lisicki and Samantha Stosur for the ladies doubles.
When the matches were all over and the ceremonies concluded Novak Djokovic headed back to Serbia with a new Major title and a new ranking within the ATP, the number one ranking in fact and when he arrived in Serbia in an open bus that brought him from the airport to Parliament Square, he found that a huge crowd had gathered and that the noise was deafening. The crowds caused his bus to take hours to actually get to his destination. He said that the festivities in Serbia were “absolutely unbelievable” on a stage with his entire family and of course, the Wimbledon trophy held high. He also mentioned that he knew he had the best fans in the world and that only Serbia could throw a party like that.
