Amazing Comeback for Marion Bartoli
How did we get here? Radwanska was able to beat Russian player Elena Dementieva in the tournament, although Dementieva had previously won an Olympic Gold medal. Dementieva was seeded number four at this event, and she was in the lead the first set, 5-3. However Radwanska showed no fear and she won four games straight to take the first set. After that it was easy, ending it 7-5, 6-3. Denentieva said that she wished she could have played longer because of her love for Beijing, but that she would now prepare for Doha.
As for Petrova, she upset Serena Williams who was seeded number two in this tournament, in round three, and then joined her country mate in the semis, to make a total of two Russian players in the semis. She beat China's Peng Shuai, 6-7 (5) 6-3 6-2. Peng Shuai had done exceptionally well as she knocked out Maria Sharapova as well as Jelena Jankovic earlier in the rounds. Said Petrova, that she was happy that she won, and that Peng had an amazing week and some great wins, as well as being a crowd pleaser. She added that now she needed to rest up.
