Ernests Gulbis v Roger Federer Live
Swiss master and a record 17 time grand slam winner Roger Federer remains in the hunt for his next grand slam title as he faces Ernests Gulbis or Latvia in the fourth round of the French Open at the Roland Garros in Paris.
Roger Federer has been in good form on the red court this year despite a minor blip in Rome. He has begun well in Paris dispatching Lukas Lacko in straight sets in the first round before doing the same to Diego Sebastian Schwartzman of Argentina in the next one. His victory over Dmitry Tursunov of Russia was not as straight forward though as he was made to work to win.
After winning the first set 7-5, Federer lost the second set to a tie breaker. One might have thought that age is taking its toll on him, but he showed the world that he still has it in him as he not only hung in there, but showed utter class and panache in taking the next couple of sets 6-2, 6-4 to seal the win.
Gulbis, meanwhile, warmed up for his match against Federer with a straight set win over Radek Stepanek. He won that encounter 6-3, 6-2, 7-5 as he exhibited his skills on the red clay court.
The pair have faced each other three times, once on the hard court at Doha and a couple of times on clay at Rome and Madrid – all in year 2010. Federer had prevailed in all those encounters and Ernests Gulbis will have to play out of his skin to stop the maestro from subjecting him to defeat yet again.
