World Group and World Group II matchups this weekend as the Fed Cup commences with round one. The World Group tournaments are the Czech Republic and Germany, as well as Serbia taking on Russia and France hoping for a win against the impressive United States. Plus, there is a round between Ukraine and Italy as well, played at the Palace of Sports in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Twice before Italy and Ukraine have met on the Fed Cup grounds and twice Italy has stepped up to the plate and dominated the court. Both times that the Italians won however, was on their own turf and this time they face Ukraine on Ukrainian soil. Could this mean an upset for Italy? This is also the first time that Ukraine has played in the regular world group and their team this year is led by Volodymyr Bogdanov and features Mariya Koryttseva, Viktoria Kutusova, Kataryna Bondarenko and Alona Bondarenko.

Meanwhile, Italy will be defending their title, as they beat the United States last year with a final score of 4-0. They also took home the title in 2006 and came fairly close in 2007, with runner up status. Italy's team consists of Roberta Vinci, Sara Errani, Francesca Shiavione and Flavia Pennetta and is led by Corrado Barazzutti.
