The Davis Cup Semi-Finals are up and Rafael Nadal is leading the Spain team to play Israel at home September 18^th to the 20^th. Also on the team for Spain will be David Ferrer, Tommy Robredo and Feliciano Lopez, according to the Davis Cup coach Francis Roig. Fernando Verdasco has injuries to his stomach and feet and will not be participating, but he was able to make it to the last eight of the men's on Monday in the U.S. Open, after defeating John Isner is four sets, 4-6,6-4,6-4,6-4.

 

 

He talked to Captain of the Spain team, Albert Costa about his injuries and is still deciding how to proceed. He mentioned that since the Davis Cup is next week that he didn't have much of an opportunity to recover.

 

Spain will be missing his help, as they attempt their second Davis Cup victory in a row, after the win last year in Argentina. The other teams that are playing in the semifinals are Croatia and the Czech Republic, and if Spain does win against Israel, then they will be playing one of those two teams in the final.

 

 

Out of the past three meetings with Israel Spain has won every single time, with the last meet-up in 1996, winning with a score of 4-1 in Ramat Hasharon, Israel. Spain is the defending champion, but in 2007, the USA defeated Russia to win. However, Israel has beat both Russia and Sweden this year. If Spain beats Israel they will be heading to their seventh Davis Cup final.
