Japan and Slovenia face off in the Fed Cup this week, as the very first round happens February 4^th and 5^th. These two teams are part of the World Group II and they will play at the Bourbon Beans Dome in Hyogo, Japan. Japan and Slovenia have played each other in the Fed Cup before, twice in fact. The first time was in 1999 and then they also played in 2010. Both of the ties were playoffs in the World Group Two and each team walked away with a win, with Japan taking home the first game 2-1 and Slovenia winning the second 4-1 in the most recent matchup.

The official team nominations for the Japanese team include Ayumi Morita, Kimiko Date-Krumm, Kurumi Nara and Rika Fujiwara as well as the captain of the Japan team Takeshi Murakami. The Slovenia team consists of Polona Hercog, Petra Rampre, Nastija Kolar and Andreja Klepac, with the captain being Maja Matevzic.
