February 4^th and 5^th Italy and Ukraine will face off in the World Group first round of this year's Fed Cup. They play at the Lauretana Forum in Biella, Italy. Italy and Ukraine have played three different times, and each time that they have gotten together, Italy has taken home the win. Italy won the first time in 1997 and then the two teams met once in in 2008 and in 2010. The 2010 match was a world group first round for these teams. Italy has taken three wins in five years thanks to the addition of Francesca Shiavona and Flavia Pennetta and Ukraine was promoted to the World Group II in 2007.

Francesca Shiavone and Flavia Pennetta are both on the list of team nominations for Italy, along with 34^th ranked Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci. The team captain is Corrado Barazzutti.
