Italy v Russia Live
The Cagliari Club, Sardinia prepares itself for the final touches as the 2013 Fed Cup narrows down to its final showdown, to be held this Saturday, 2nd of November, 2013.
The qualifying teams of Russia and Italy will enter the outdoor red clay court with a very obvious disparity: while Italy retains four of the world’s best 50 doubles champions, the Russian squad has no one ranked in the top 130s of the world ranking.
With an outstanding number 7 ranking in the singles, and number 1 ranking in the doubles, Sara Errani is expected to be one of the strongest players Italy currently has. Other players, of the like of Vinca (ranking 13th on the singles’ list) and Karin Knapp are likely to drift Italy into an easy win.
Russia, on the other hand, faces a major setback with Sharapova’s shoulder bursitis still not healed, and a refusal of Svetlana Kuznetsova, the two-time trophy holder of Grand slam, to play in the tournament. The only experienced player in the court is Kleybanova.
A major portion of the tickets has already been sold out, although the online ticket bank still retains some of them. The organizers are looking forward to great media attention given the conditions and the name of the tournament.

Sunday marks the Italy versus Russia match of the Fed Cup Semi-Final with great matches happening all day long. The action begins Saturday, April 25th at 10:00. Castellaneta, Italy will be the city hosting the match, and this match may hold a few surprises for fans.
Surprising everyone in the Tennis world, Dinara Safina, owner of the current world champion title, was left off the team list for the Russian Fed Cup Team. Instead, Vera Zvonareva, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Nadia Petrova, and Anna Chakvetadze will be competing. The Russian Team captain is Shamil Tarpischev. Zvonareva may beg out with an ankle injury she sustained recently, but it's anyone's guess at this point.
Russia has a history of being victorious in the Fed Cup, but in 2006 Italy broke up their winning streak with their own victory. They'll be bringing Flavia Pennetta, Francesca Schiavone, Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, with Corrado Barazzutti captaining the team, to the Fed Cup on Saturday.
Other matches on the same day include France and Slovakia, Ukraine and Argentina and the US visiting the Czech Republic, all in the hopes of claiming the Fed Cup for 2009.
