Great Britain v USA Live
Great Britain will host the United States on Friday at Glasgow, in what will be a rematch of last years Davis Cup tie for the 2015 edition of the tournament. The two teams have clashed in last year’s opening round in San Diego, where the Brits took down the record champion (USA has as many as 32 Davis Cup titles) in heroic fashion, thanks to the efforts of James Ward and their multiple Grand Slam winner Andy Murray.
An eight-time champion, the British team hasn’t won since 1936, and to see them in the final, we also have to go back more than 30 years. Murray wasn’t even born when they last made the finals (1978), losing to their upcoming opponent, the mighty United States.
They might be mighty (no pun intended), but it’s not like the Americans have been very successful lately. This year’s edition is the 8thanniversary of their last win, which followed a 1995 victory, which means they only won twice in the last more than two decades. During that 2007 final, the Americans took down Russia, with Andy Roddick and James Blake doing most of the heavy lifting. The outcome of the final was secured with a Bryan-Bryan victory over the Russian’s double tandem of Igor Andreev and Nikolay Davydenko.
The current teams are built around Andy Murray and James Ward on the British side, and with the Americans, it will likely be John Isner and Sam Querrey who will play the single ties in addition to the best doubles tandem of all-time, which will of course include Bob and Mark Bryan. Going into Friday’sencounter, the Brits are probably the slight favorites to advance.
