Ivo Karlovic and Marin Cillic will be in charge of Croatia when the head to the Davis Cup semi-finals when they play the Czech Republic nearer to the end of the month. Croatia beat the United States in the quarterfinals round in July. The match between Croatia and the Czech Republic is September 18th through the 20th. They will play on clay courts in Porec. This is also the day of the match between Israel and Spain, and whoever wins this tournament will face the winner between Israel and Spain in the 2009 Davis Cup final.
Ivo Karlovic made it all the way to the quarter finals in Wimbledon, but unfortunately was eliminated in the first round from the U.S. Open. Croatia's defeat of the United States team to make it to these semis was the third time in as many matches that they defeated the U.S., and this is only their second time ever reaching the semifinals of the Davis Cup. Croatia won the Davis Cup championship against the Slovak Republic in 2005, with a final of 3-2. This match is Bratislava set a record, making them the first unseeded nation to ever have a win in the history of the World Group.
This is going to be a great tournament from September 18th to the 20th, deciding which of these two teams will go onto the final, and face either Spain or Israel, depending upon who wins that semifinal match.
