Venus Williams and Andrea Petkovic will be competing in the third round of the 2011 Australian Open, our very first Grand Slam of the new season of professional tennis, and they will be facing off at the Rod Laver Arena at 7:00PM on Friday, January 21^st. This is round three for the ladies, with Venus Williams seeded fourth in this tournament and Andrea Petkovic holding the 30^th seed spot. Also competing on the other side of the Rod Laver will be Gael Monfils and Stanislas Wawrinka, also competing for round three advancement.

Venus Williams is competing in the Open for what will be her 12^th time, and this American was a finalist in 2003 but has never won the event in Singles. However, she did win in the doubles competition in 2001, 2003, 2009 and most recently in 2010. As for German player Andrea Petkovic, she has played in three Australian Opens previously and has entered in doubles, singles and mixed doubles, making it to the second round in the singles the last two years in a row.
