On the ATP World Tour this week, the ATP Masters 1000 event known as the Western & Southern Open, which happens in Cincinnati, Ohio in the United States from the 12th of August to the 19th, played on hard courts for $2,825,280, with a singles draw of 56 and a doubles draw of 24. This event will be followed by the Winston Salem Open, which happens in Winston Salem starting the 19th of August, and then it will be onto the Grand Slam event known as the US Open that is held in New York City starting August 27th.
The most recently played tournament was the Citi Open, held in the United States in Washington, D.C. This hard court event started on the 30th of July and was played on hard courts. It was won by Alexandr Dolgopolov in the Singles and Dominic Inglot and Treat Conrad Huey in the doubles. This tournament was first played at the Avondale Tennis Club more than a hundred years ago and Roger Federer is the top seed, followed by Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. David Ferrer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga are the fourth and fifth seeds.

The World Tour Masters in Cincinnati is over a hundred years old, played the very first time at the Avondale Athletic Club. Today, this Master's event is held at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. While the women of the WTA are having a tournament of the same name, the men are gearing up for a Master's 1000 tournament held in Cincinnati, Ohio starting August 16th. This is a hard court tournament with a field that is shaping up to be world class, with a 56 singles draw and a 24 doubles draw. The prize purse equals $3,000,000.
This tournament was first played at Avondale Athletic Club around 100 years ago, but now it has progressed from that tiny event to a great ATP World Tour Masters 1000. The tournament is held at the Lindner Family Tennis Center and the official name is the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters. Before Andy Roddick won, every champion in this tournament was ranked number one at some point in their career.
Of course the competitors in this event include some of the biggest names in tennis, including Rafael Nadal who has been at the final of event of every single Master's 1000 tournament, except this one. His best finish happened last year when he met Djokovic in the semi-final and lost to Djokovic.
As for Roger Federer, this will be his third win in Cincinnati if he can win this tournament, taking it in 2005 against Andy Roddick, and two years ago when he beat Blake. Andy Roddick's record is 25-6 in Cincinnati. He took the title In 2003 against Mardy Fish and won again in 2006 against Ferrero.
