All the seeded players receive a direct entry to the second round. Richard Gasquet of France has been seeded first, who needs to gain some momentum. Following his fourth round run in the Wimbledon, he has only played in Cincinnati, where he lost in the second round. Roberto Bautista Agut is right behind him at the second seed, who is coming in confident after reaching the quarters in the Olympics. With a tally of 34-15 and two titles, he has been quite persistent this year. Pablo Cuevas too has been playing along the same lines as Agut, who is coming in as third seed despite his early exits in the last few events. Kevin Anderson of South Africa and the local favorite Steve Johnson are the only ones here who are coming in with some traction, having performed well in the last couple of tournaments.

The defending champion of the Winston-Salem Open is the Czech Lukas Rosol, who although won’t be seeded in the main draw, will try to defend his title regardless. After taking a look at some of the seeded players, we can safely conclude that this is not going to be easy for the 2014 champion. With the exception of 16th seed Jerzy Janowicz and 15th seed Teymuraz Gabashvili, all the other 14 seeds had a top 50 ranking at the time of the draw. Out of those players, world number 11 Gilles Simon will be the top seed and one of the top 5 favorites to go all the way.

Second seed Kevin Anderson will surely have a say in those matters, and the same will probably be true about third seed Jo Wilfried Tsonga. If the French (Tsonga) is healthy and fit enough, he probably possesses the most potent combination of talent and power in the main draw.
