Being played in Vina Del Mar in Chile, this tournament is a part of the ATP World Tour 250 series and has the importance of being the opening leg of the four tournaments Golden Swing. The dates of the tournament are from 3rd February to the 9th of February 2014 and will enjoy the honor of being a part of the Golden Swing.

It has a strong history when it was given the privilege of hosting the tournament, switching with Santiago after 1992 when Brazil suspended its three ATP Tournaments. Moreover, the history also extends to the fact that it has had some of the best players such as the top ten.

This week on the ATP World Tour the series heads to Vina del Mar, Chile for the VTR Open, an ATP 250 level tournament that runs from the 30th of January to the 5th of February. It features a singles draw of 28 and a doubles draw of 16. The tournament is played on clay for $450,000 and it will be followed by the first round of this year's Davis Cup, which starts on the 6th of February. After that, the series wll play an ATP 500 event called the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, starting the 13th of February in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

This event spent some time in Santiago but wll return to Vina del Mar in 2012. It marks the first time this season that the ATP World Tour will play on clay, and is the first of four tournaments in Latin America. Fernando Gonzales is a four time champion here. The top seed this year is Juan Monaco with Juan Ignacio Chela as the second seed and Thomaz Bellucci as the third. Pablo Andujar is fourth and Albert Montanes is fifth. The 2009 Movistar Open is part of the ATP 250 series under the new ATP structure for 2009 and will be held in Vina Del Mar, Chile, on hard courts from February 2nd 2009 through to February 9th 2009. Fernando Gonzalez of Chile will look to defend his ATP title at the Movistar Open after winning the tournament by default last year. Gonzalez beat fellow semi-finalist Pablo Cuevas 6-7, 7-6, 6-2, only for fellow finalist Juan Monaco to pull out of the final after sustaining an injury in the doubles final earlier that week. The hard-hitting world number 14 produced stunning displays at this years Australian open, overcoming Lleyton Hewitt in five set thriller before coming back from two sets down to beat Richard Gasquet.

Other favourites for the tournament include Tommy Robredo and Argentinian Juan Monaco. Robredo is currently ranked 22nd in the ATP Rankings and will look to move up the list with his debut appearance at the Movistar Open. Robredo has not won a singles competition since the Swedish Open last year and is a firm favourite to take the title at Vina del Mar. Last year's finalist Juan Monaco is also one of the favourites this year and will look to overcome the nightmares of last year where he had to pull out injured before the final even began. His last single final came at the Hypo Group Tennis International where he lost out to Nikolay Davydenko and he peaked at Number 14 in the ATP rankings last year.

Defending doubles champions Jose Acasuso and Sebastian Prieto return to defend thier title this year after defeating pair Maximo Gonzalez and Juan Monaco after Monaco withdrew due to injury. Gonzalez and Monaco also return this year but with different partners, Gonzalez appears this time with Nicolas Lapentti whilst Monaco partners Lucas Arnold Ker who has returned to the ATP circuit after beating Testicular Cancer, of which he was diagnosed of in 2006.
