A combined ATP and WTA event will take place in New Haven, Connecticut this week, titled the Pilot Pen Tennis at Yale, and it goes from August 22nd through the 28th. For the men, this tournament is worth $663,750 and there is a prize purse of $600,000 for the ladies. This is a WTA Premier Level event and an ATP World Tour 250 level event. This tournament is the last chance for the ATP players to earn U.S. Open points, as the U.S. Open is held the week after. The singles draw for the men is 48 players and there are 32 women singles draws. For the doubles, it is sixteen for both the men and the women. This is an outdoor hard court tournament and part of the Olympus U.S. Open Series. The ladies draws aren't in at the time of this writing, but on the men's side, the top seed is Sam Querrey, who finished second place last year, losing to Fernando Verdasco.
The second seed for this event on the men's side is Thomasz Belucci, and the third is Marcos Baghdatis, who reached the final of the Washington stop on the Olympus U.S. Open Series, but didn't grab the title. Tommy Robredo is the fourth seed, and Victor Hanescu is fifth. Mardy Fish is the sixth seed and seventh and eighth are Alexandr Dolgopolov and James Blake.
