The Memphis Open will be played this week as a part of the ATP 250 series. The top four seeds have been given a bye into the second round, and let us take a look at some of the contenders.
The top seed is the Croat Ivo Karlovic, who is coming in after an uneventful run in the Ecuador Open. Having lost in the first round there to Victor Estrella Burgos, he'll need to perform here in order to avoid slipping in the rankings. Next up is the local favourite John Isner, who is currently the World No. 23. His most recent tournament was the Australian Open, where he lost in the second round to Mischa Zverev. His record right now is 3-2 and he appears to be quite rusty as well. One of his defeats came in the quarterfinal of ASB Classic to the hands of his compatriot Steve Johnson, who has been seeded fourth for the event. Johnson's run in Auckland ended in the semifinal itself, and has failed drastically to repeat that feat since then.
Another player whose form has been along the similar lines is the 29 year old American Sam Querrey. He crashed out in the third round of Australian Open, which has been his best feat this year.

The 2016 Memphis Open will be the 41st edition of the tournament. The reigning champion of this indoor hardcourt event is the Japanese Kei Nishikori who will come back and try to defend his title.
The total prize money is $618.030 which is a fairly substantial amount for an ATP 250 tourney. Back to Nishikori, the Japanese is not merely the defending champion, he actually won the last three tournaments. He will try to go four in a row and considering the fact that he will be, far and away the biggest favorite in the main draw, the bigger surprise would probably be if he could not pull this off. The Japanese's biggest rival should have been world number 14 South African Kevin Anderson who unfortunately withdrew from the tournament. That left the Japanese squaring off against a bunch of lower ranked players. The next highest ranked player compared to the Japanese's world number 7 status will be American Steve Johnson who is currently the 30th player in the world. Not just that, but the next best seeded player, the also American Donald Young will compete with a 48th ranking which means there will only be three top 50 players in the main draw.
A very lopsided competition which Nishikori should probably win without dropping a set.

The United States National Indoor Tennis Championship is a professional tennis tournament and will be played in Memphis on its hard court surfaces. Interestingly, it is a very old event, having been played for more than 100 years and till very recently it had both, the men's and women's competing in it. However, this changed around and for this season, only the men's section of the draw is in openration.
The event was previously known under various sponsored names including the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships, the Kroger St. Jude Championship, and the Volvo Championships. It will be Kei Nishikori who will enter the competition as the defending champion, having won the title in 2013. The top seeded Nishikori had a first-round bye in the 28-man draw, and he will be joined by the likes of Feliciano Lopez, Lleyton Hewitt and Yen-Hsun Lu as the others who will directly play in the second round. Interestingly, Nishikori got a bye into the main draw of the competition. Some of the other seeded players in action in the competition will be Australia's Marinko Matosevic, American Sam Querrey, Micha? Przysie;z.ny of Poland and Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan.
In the doubles event, there's the Bryan brothers who start off as the top seeds and should not have any issues winning the title for themselves.
