Talking about winner, if we take a look at the previous champions, we can instantly see just how prestigious the tourney is for an ATP 250 event. Five of the six previous champions have already been multiple ATP titlists at the time of their Malaysian Open victory, which is remarkable. The only exception is Joao Sousa whose only ATP title so far came here back in 2013. The other winners were Nikolay Davydenko, Mikhail Youzhny, Janko Tipsarevic, Juan Monaco and last year’s champion Kei Nishikori, all having multiple titles under their belt. Not only that, but all five of those players were top 10 competitors at one point in their career. This information tells just how prestigious this tournament is, and this year’s lineup won’t be any different.
