Watch the SA Tennis Open live online with tennis online at www.watchlivetennis.org with membership from just €9.95 a year. The 2009 SA Tennis Open is part of the ATP 250 series under the new ATP structure for 2009 and will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa on hard courts, beginning on February 2nd through to February 8th 2009. The winner will take home the $450,000 cash prize money plus 250 ATP Ranking points.
The SA Tennis open is in its debut year in the ATP series, after being revised from the old South African Open, which was last held in 1995, with Johannesburg set to provide a new location on the tour.
Leading the line-up for the tournament is world number seven Jo-Wilfried Tsonga who will look to improve on his fantastic form from last year. The French player, dubbed the 'Muhammed Ali of Tennis' rose to fame after his astonishing 2008 Australian Open performance where he came into the tournament unseeded, only to reach the final where he lost out to world number three Novak Djokovic.
Other firm favourites include David Ferrer, Marcos Baghdatis and Fabrice Santoro who will look to claim their first ATP win of 2009 with fellow favourite Gael Monfils due to a wrist injury sustained in the Australian open. Spaniard David Ferrer is ranked at number twelve in the ATP rankings and has told South African press he is looking forward to the first ever SA Tennis Open.
Meanwhile, Fabrice 'the Magician' Santoro will look to carry on his impressive form from last year where he won two titles, with the most recent on November 2008 in the ATP Challenger Series on hard courts. Santoro is known for using both hands for every possible shot as well as pulling off stunning trick shots during competitions. Marcos Baghdatis will look for his first tournament win on hard courts since the end of 2006 and will hope for better luck after crashing out of the Australian open to world number three Novak Djokovic.
The tournament at Montecasino has four South Africans to represent the home side, including world number 104 Kevin Anderson and wild cards Rik de Voest and Raven Klaasen, while the remaining berth goes to the SA Nationals winner in the tournament that finishes at Montecasino next week.
