Tennis will see the ATP World Tour return to Estoril on Sunday, May 3rd 2009. The ATP 250 last year saw Roger Federer claim the singles trophy after five months with no wins, and Jeff Coetzee and teammate Wesley Moodie win the doubles tourney. This was Federer's 54th career ATP Trophy.
The tournament will be played on outdoor clay courts at the Estadio Nacional in Portugal, and will last until May 10th. Both the men's and the women's tournaments will be held during that week. The women's draw is headlined by Maria Kirilinko the 2008 champion and by 2004 and 2008 finalist Iveta Benesova. The men's draw will be featuring former champion in 2002 and 2006 David Nalbandian as well as 2003 champion Nikolay Davydenko. David Ferrer, Richard Gasquet and Mardy Fish will also be playing.
The Tournament starts Sunday, May 3rd and lasts until Sunday, May 10th. Fans are expecting some great tennis action after seeing the lineup. Nikolay Davydenko is known for always reaching the final, or losing in the first round while Jarkko Nieminen and Nicolas Mahut were out in the first round in 2008, so fans are looking to see how these players perform. The singles draw is for 32 players while the doubles is 16. The prize money for this tournament is $450,000 Euros.
