What is different about this tournament is that it is happening side by side by the ITF Women’s Circuit’s Astra Italy Tennis Cup, which is a fairly lower tier tournament with a total prize of 10,000 Dollars. But the Internazionali di Tennis dell'Umbria has a total prize of 35,000 Dollars, which is the lowest that tournaments in the ATP Challenger Tour go to.

The Internazionali di Tennis dell'Umbria has been held annually since 2007, making this the 8th edition of the tournament. Normally, the players in this tournament all typically consist of the top 200 ranked players, with only a few being just under the top 200.
