World no. 45 Marcel Granollers has been awarded the first seed. After enjoying a brief stint of some success on the clay courts this season, the top seed failed to replicate the same for the remainder of the tour. He is coming in fresh from a second round defeat in the US Open by Andy Murray. Placed in opposing half to Granollers is his compatriot Inigo Cervantes, who too hasn't had the best of the season. Prior to his first round defeat in the US Open, he incurred early losses in three challenger events. The third seeded player is Dustin Brown, who is known for his persistence on the court. His last best performance was in Gstaad, where he was the semifinalist. The last of the top 100 player is Radu Albot, who is coming in with a record of 3-8 this year.

The reigning champion is the German Dustin Brown who has defeated his compatriot, Jan Lennard Struff in last year’s final. The Sczecin Open has a prestigious history with many ATP titlists among its champions. Just among the winners, there are more than 10 players who fits this description and a couple of other runner-ups as well who went on to win ATP tournaments later in their careers.  Brown won’t try to defend his title but even he would, he probably wouldn’t be among the main favorites. The top seed will be Pablo Carreno Busta who is an excellent clay court player and has every chance to go all the way in this tournament.
