The Copa Sevilla is an annual outdoor clay court tournament held in Seville, Spain. The defending champion of the event is Pablo Carreno Busta. The Spaniard will not only try to defend his title this year, but actually the top seed of the tournament which will offer up a total prize money of €42,500.

If we take a look at the past winners of the event that is currently having its 18th edition, we can see that as often is the case, the tournament has been largely dominated by Spanish players. In fact, the last seven winners were all Spaniards. Daniel Gimeno Traver was the most notorious among them, “threepeating” between 2011 and 2013. With his three championships under his belt, he is also the record champion of the tournament. Pere Riba is the second with two Seville titles to his name. The most notable winner in tournament history is also a Spaniard, former world number 5, seven-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist and 12-time career ATP titlist Tommy Robredo. Robredo has won the event 15 years ago when he was still a teenager.

Since he moved on to bigger and better things and naturally isn’t present in the main draw. The clear favorite is reigning champion Carreno Busta who should be able to make the final with an excellent chance of repeating last year’s success.
