The ATP Open Castilla y Leon has become one of the best ATP Challenger events on the tour, starting first as a place for amateur hopefulls to meet up and play, but now one of the most important matches in Spain, and has seen some of the best ATP players in world compete here. More than 178 tournaments in more than 40 countries play on the ATP tour and this event ranks among the best, even earning the Campeonator Internacionales de Espana award from the Spanish Tennis Federation, along with thirty other awards throughout history including the honor medal for Sport Merit, awarded by the Consejo Superior of Sports and recognition by the Spanish Olympic Committee.

 

 

The tournament is well known for famous faces and names dominating the hard courts each year, including the likes of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Fernando Verdasco and Juan Marin Del Potro. In the singles competition winners have included Ovivier Mutis, Tomas Zib, Paul-Henri Mathieu, Nicolas Mahut, Yeu-Tzuoo Wang, Michael Berrer, Alun Jones and last year's champion's Sergiy Stakhovsky and Thiago Alves. The last couple of years of doubles include Paul Bacanello, Johan Lanndsberg, Chris Guiccionne, Michel Kiratochvil and the 2008 champions Ross Hutchins, Jim Thomas, Jarslav Levinksy and Filip Polasek.

 

 

The Open Castilla y Leon happens August 1^st through the 4^th and some of the major players that will be competing this year include Spain's Feliciano Lopez, who is ranked number 31 in singles competition as well as Stephane Bohli, ranked 126. Also there is Ivan Navarro, also from Spain who ranks 67^th and Evgeny Korolev who is number 63. This is going to be a great ATP Challenger tournament with some serious names hitting the Segovia hard courts.
