The reigning champion of the tourney is Farrukh Dustov who was also the runner-up back in 2012. The tournament has been dominated by players from the region. We have three previous Uzbek winners and a couple of Russian ones as well.

The since retired Oleg Ogorodov is the record champion with two trophies. Other notable winners include a former top 10 player in Janko Tipsarevic and Mariano Puerta, who made the final of the 2005 Roland Garros a decade ago.

The top seed – and probably the top favorite as well – is Teymuraz Gabashvili who is also a former winner after emerging victorious back in 2012.

Curiously enough, there are no repeat winners in tournament history. If Dustov can do it this year, he will become the first back-to-back champ in Samarkand.
